Wanderlust Wednesday

This is (hopefully) going to be a new feature here at The Bookish Thespian. If you know me... or have read my "about me" you know I suffer from delight in Wanderlust. I love traveling, if I get stuck home for too long I start to get twitchy. I got to go to Arizona for a day a couple weeks ago and that made me happy. At least I was getting out of the state for a bit.

Now about this feature. Haven't you ever read a book that made you want to book the next plane ticket? Hop in your car and just start driving, pausing only long enough to kidnap your friends and take them with you?

I know I have. And that is what I am going to talk about. I'm pretty sure I'm going to do it the second Wednesday of every month. If I did it every week I think I'd run out of books pretty fast. So every second Wednesday I am going to tell you about the lastest book I've read that's made me more wanderlusty than usual.

Now here is where you come in. I would LOVE to hear about what books give you wanderlust. Did any books actually inspire a trip? Or are you impatiently waiting to visit that place you read about? Tell me! I'm excited to discuss it!

Please, leave a comment!

Top Ten Beach Reads

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created over at my other blog, The Broke and the Bookish.

I live in Utah, therefore I am rather... landlocked. And no The Great Salt Lake does NOT count. If you live in Utah, you understand. I'm not sure what I'd consider a beach read, so I basically thought of books that made me think of the beach, or books that were summery... or in some cases, just books that I thought might qualify as a beach read.

She spends so much time outside, on the beach... It makes me want to make the 11 hour drive to get to a real beach.

The entirety of this book takes place at a beach on in the ocean.
If that doesn't qualify it as a beach read, I'm not sure what does.

This one might make you want to stay on the beach and not venture too far into the water.

This is a fun, light read. It seems like it would be a delight to read
while sitting on the beach with lots of sunshine.

I didn't even really love this book. It was cute, but not a favorite. However, the descriptions of the beach and living so close to the water made me wish I was there.

Aside from being a great book, it takes place at the beach. Made
me wish I was AT the beach.

The characters spend a lot of time wrapped in furs, and being cold. Seems like this would be a delight to read in the warm sun.

This is a fun, light read. Seems like it would be fun to read on the beach!
Simply put, I adore this book. I'd love to read it while sitting in the sun!

Because why not? An old favorite seems like a perfect beach read.

What's on your list? Do we have any in common? Any you think I should add to this list? Tell me in the comments!

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? Me:

This was one of those books that was on my tbr list long before it was even published. Then it sat on my wishlist for a really long time. (I'm in my last two semesters of college, I am ridiculously poor) Finally, I had some extra money after judging drama competition. (I'm still amazed I got paid to go and watch kids perform, critique them and then give them some direction. Paid for something fun. That I have a degree in. It's an amazing thing) Anyway. I finally had some extra cash and bought a couple of books, and this was one of them.

I really enjoyed this. If you've read some of my other reviews you know how much I love a tough heroine. I also have a serious weakness for retellings. Cinder anyone? I had high hopes for this, and it did not disappoint. It has just the right amount of action and suspense, mystery, character development and world building to make it a delightful read.

You:

I recommend this to anyone that enjoys a good retelling, strong heroines, or fantasy.

Have you read Throne of Glass? What did you think? Do you have any favorite retellings?

Shadow and Bone

Book/ Author: Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
Publisher: Square Fish
Series?: Yes "Grisha Trilogy"
Rating: 5 Stars!
Angst Level: 2

Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.
Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha . . . and the secrets of her heart.

Me:
I have no idea how I came so late to the party that is Shadow and Bone. I'd heard about it in passing. The occasional tweet, an update on Goodreads... But for some weird reason, I never picked it up. Even though it's pretty much everything I love in a book. Likable heroine learns she's much more than she thought, learns kick-a skills, saves people... Magic, adventure, romance... Needless to say, I really enjoyed it. It was exciting, I liked the characters, great world building.

You:
I recommend this to you if you are looking for a good fantasy read, or like characters that start off average and become amazing.

I am glad about one thing. I didn't have to wait very long for the second book!
Oh, and about the "Angst Level". Don't you ever get tired of too much angst in a book? Or just want to know how much to expect when you pick up a book? Me too. So I'll be including an "angst level" on all of my reviews from now on. Happy reading!
